Kaylee was diagnosed with a stage III favorable Wilms Tumor in June 2011. Wilms is a childhood kidney cancer that affects abt 600 kids in North America a year. She finished 6 months of treatment including surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. In June of 2012 we found a recurrence in her lung through a routine CT scan, and are now starting the process over again. Although always a little behind, this blog is to document her story, for her, to remember the trials and blessings that have come from her diagnosis, and so she always knows what a brave little girl she is.

Grandpa Palmer to the Rescue

There is only one man I can think of who will sift through poopy diapers to look for swallowed nickles, create projects out of thin air, cook a meal to order for each person individually, take care of a nursing baby whose mama has suddenly left her side, convince a smooth talking 3 year old to go to bed, play football, soccer and basketball at any given moment without a fuss, be stuck in a house with 3 kids and no car for weeks on end, soak up every moment he gets with you though they are few and far between, send your mommy and daddy out on dates, clean up after every meal, spend hours creating a craft for you that gets smashed a minute later and keep a smile, and keep the dishes clean and laundry folded.

He flew a thousand miles the day after your surgery

and rescued us.

  1. We are so grateful he can be there with you, and that he is so good at it too is such a blessing. It would be a crack up to see my dad here taking care of my kids. His specialty was watery mac anc cheese with added onion!

  3. Thank you for the note. But I am the blessed one. There is nothing better than being around my grandchildren. And these 4 are so much fun. I am, the blessed one!
